About the City
The community of Fergus is full of exciting opportunities to get active, get involved and get excited about living. Whether you're interested in exploring local history at the Wellington County Museum, spending the day fly fishing on the Grand River or taking in an exciting live show at the Fergus Grand Theatre, you'll find there's something for every taste in Fergus.
The town of Fergus was once known as "Little Falls," named for the picturesque waterfalls that run through its downtown, next to the Public Library. Right next door is the Fergus Marketplace, an historic building that dates back to the 1870s, where it was used as a factory, foundry and machine shop. The building now houses a variety of vendors and retail shops, offering clothing, foods and unique treasures, as well as restaurants, cafes and meeting places for those who simply want to soak up the historical setting and beautiful architecture.
Fergus is a great place to enjoy active living, at whatever pace you choose. The Fergus Curling Club offers a seniors program, but is also a draw for people of all ages. The Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex also has a number of programs designed for all ages and fitness levels, including aquatfit, aerobics and more. If you're looking for pastimes outside of physical fitness, the Victoria Park Seniors Centre is a great resource for developing new hobbies, getting involved and meeting people in the community. From arts classes to card parties, you'll find a number of opportunities to mix, mingle and take up a new pastime.
