Welcome to your resource centre for the town of Elora!
For a small town, Elora has a big reputation. Its most notable claim to fame is the stunning Elora Gorge, with its breathtaking 80-foot limestone cliffs that flank the Grand and Irvine rivers. The Gorge is a great destination for water adventurists, while the surrounding parkland and riverside trails are outfitted with barriered walking and hiking trails, so you can explore the beauty of the Gorge safely. The Gorge is just a taste of what the town has to offer, however – take a look at even more.
The Elora BIA strives to keep the town’s downtown core beautiful, well-managed and a showcase for its Old World roots. Original stone buildings dating back to the 1800s have been immaculately maintained and converted into unique shops, galleries and studios filled with handcrafted art pieces, glass and pottery and more. Many have also become restaurants, where you can grab a bite and relax after strolling through the downtown core.
The Elora Mill Inn & Spa is another downtown attraction. You can pamper yourself with one of the many spa services available, share an elegant dinner with friends or family or simply take in an evening’s entertainment of live music.
People. Places. Pastimes
Though Elora may be a small town, it has something to offer everyone, whatever their age or interests. The Elora Racetrack and Slot Machines can provide a night’s entertainment as well as access to exciting shows like the Grand River Fair and Exhibition, Truck and Tractor Pull, Calf Show and so much more. If you’re tastes lean more to the artistic and creative, the Elora Centre for the Arts is a great place to explore a variety of art exhibits and take classes in photography, pottery, drawing and other fine arts skills.
Elora was settled by Scottish pioneers in the early 1800s. In the 1850s and 1860s, it developed into an agricultural marketplace, but by the 1960s, craftspeople and artisans moved into the community and began laying the foundations for the tourist destination that the town has become today. More of Elora’s rich history can be explored at the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
